Primary Purpose: 

The primary responsibilities of a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) encompass a wide range of strategic and operational duties. The CTO is tasked with leading the development and execution of the district's technology strategy, ensuring it aligns with educational goals and enhances teaching and learning environments. This includes managing the technology infrastructure, overseeing the integration of instructional technology into classrooms, and ensuring the security and efficiency of data systems. Additionally, the CTO collaborates with various stakeholders—administrators, teachers, and community members—to facilitate technology-driven educational improvements. The role also involves budget management, staff supervision, and staying updated on emerging educational technologies to drive innovation within the district. 

 

Qualifications: 

Education/Certification: 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

Knowledge of computer network, hardware, and software applications 

Knowledge of computer applications development and implementation 

Ability to manage budget and personnel; coordinate district function; implement policy and procedure 

Skills in managing technology assets to ensure a healthy fleet of devices and systems 

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 

Ability to interpret data 

Strong leadership and team management skills. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders. 

Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. 

Proficient in IT infrastructure management, data security, and software development. 

Knowledge of current educational technology trends and data privacy laws affecting schools. 

Expertise in cybersecurity practices, including data protection, risk management, and response to security breaches 

Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations regarding data privacy, particularly in educational settings 

Understanding of budget management and the ability to allocate technology resources cost-effectively 

Ability to develop and implement a technology strategy that aligns with the district's educational goals 

Knowledge of digital learning principles and practices that enable and empower students and teachers 

Ability to manage change and guide the district through technology transitions 

 

Experience: 

5 years of experience in supervision and management of an information systems department for a large organization.
