Description

Primary Purpose: The Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction will work directly with campus administration to effectively provide leadership for the operations of educational programs and services for the District. 

 

Qualifications: 

 

Education/Certification

  • A valid teaching license with endorsements as needed.
  • Master’s Degree or above required.
  • Mid Management/Principal certification required

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Secondary TEKS, content depth, and curriculum
  • Leadership experience required
  • Demonstrated strength in instruction and curriculum
  • Strong communication and training/presentation skills
  • Evidence of data-driven decision-making skills
  • Highly organized
  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills
  • Flexible
  • Ability to interpret data

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years exemplary experience in Secondary teaching or leadership role.
  • Three years of successful experience in education administration required.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

  • Mentor and facilitate teachers
  • Supports professional learning communities
  • Evaluate data
  • Ensure the use of technology in the teaching-learning process.
  • Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs.
  • Support campus in planning necessary time, resources, and materials to support instructional staff in accomplishing educational goals.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge instructional effectiveness.
  • Support inclusion and ELL differentiated instruction
  • Be a resource for and model best practice
  • Work with principals and department chairs to plan for and monitor curriculum implementation.
  • Observe and coach content area teachers
  • Work with principals to improve instructional practice
  • Report on the status of curriculum implementation to principals and supervisors
  • Teach demonstration classes as needed
  • Accurately demonstrate knowledge of the content area
  • Plan and provide technical and curriculum assistance to teachers.

 Staff Development 

  • Support implementation and professional development required for textbook adoption
  • Evaluate and recommend professional development needs
  • Coordinate with district administration to provide professional development opportunities
  • Facilitate staff development to deepen content knowledge

 Other

  • Communicate with and obtain feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding
  • Keep an accurate inventory of all instructional materials.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to develop a prioritized list of materials needed for instruction.
  • Comply with the Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession Standards of Professional Conduct and Code of Ethics.
  • Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor and/or the superintendent.

 Budget

  • Ensure that programs are cost effective and that funds are managed prudently.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Assist with the development and management of the annual budget for the department.
  • Implement the policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Sitting, standing, lifting, and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, climbing, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.
  • Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature and air quality.
  • Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments.
  • Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.
  • Occasional prolonged or irregular hours may be required.
